Surigao to Siargao Map
Surigao is the closest landmass of Mindanao to the Visayas region. It also serves as the jump-off point to visitors planning to go to Siargao, Dinagat, and Bucas Grande thus, the importance of its port.
Surigao City port
The small port of Surigao is located in Eva Macapagal Passenger Terminal. It is one of the oldest ports in Mindanao which can be traced back to the Spanish era. At present, it gets busy with all the tourists traveling from Surigao airport to Siargao.
You can catch a multicab or tricycle to get to the port from Surigao airport.
While there are ferries docking at Del Carmen, the main port in Siargao is the one located in the town of Dapa. It is also the entry point for visitors coming from Surigao to Siargao with car. Aside from that, it is also the only town on the island with National banks and ATMs. It is also hailed as the best place to start your Bucas Grande adventure because it also has ferries going to Bucas Grande and Socorro.

The distance between Surigao and Siargao is 59.1 kilometers. Depending on the type of Surigao to Siargao ferry service you take, travel time can take 2 to 4 hours.
When is the best time to go to Siargao?
Due to the nature of activities you can enjoy on the island, it is better to go to Siargao during the summer season. Most of the activities on the island, if not all, are best to do under the sun. If you are planning a lot of surfing during your visit, it is also better to consider which months are the surfing season on the island where you can expect beautiful waves. To answer this question, surfers prefer to go to Siargao between the months of July and December. General Luna has beautiful swells on the months of May to November. If you want to specifically visit Cloud 9, it can be best visited from September to November.
Surfing in Pilar
Surfing in Pilar, on the other hand, can be enjoyed from November to April although heavy rainfall is usually expected during these months.

Waves during the summer can be best enjoyed by beginners.
Can I bring my car to Siargao?

- In light of the Coronavirus outbreak, always make sure to check the ferry schedule ahead of time. You can also book the tickets online.
- Also, make sure to check the required documents as part of the COVID safety protocols before traveling to Siargao.
- If you are a PWD, Senior Citizen, or student, check with the ticketing office if they offer ticket discounts. This will help you save a bit on your fare.
- Be sure to arrive at the port at least 30 mins before boarding. Consider enough time for document inspection and other COVID-related safety procedures.
Things to remember when in Siargao island
Siargao is a very carefree place to travel to. Here are some things you should remember when on the island:
- Nightlife is the best on this island. Before the night starts, check with local restaurants and bar of any party schedule. They’ll be very glad to have you over.
- If you can drive, just rent a motorcycle during your whole trip. You’ll find it very convenient to have a ride of your own since it will be easier to drive to places. If not, there are also tricycles to take you where you want to go in town but they’re not really suitable for long drives to Santa Monica (if you’re staying in General Luna). - Cheap hostels on the island might have problems with water connection and even electricity. If traveling with a car, be sure to check if there is an available parking space.
- Bring mosquito and bug repellants.
- While there are a lot of restaurants in the heart of the town, you can always find fresh seafood in the wet market. It will also help you save a lot if you can cook your own meals.
